GVPM capabilities offer comprehensive analyses of wind related problems concerning bridges. Our area of expertise includes topics such as static and dynamic wind loads, wind-induced vibrations, and assessment of aeroelastic stability of decks, towers, cables/hangers, and full-bridges.

Analyses are carried out both numerically, by means of well validated simulation tools, and by experimental tests in the wind tunnel, using different kinds of models specifically designed for each study.

Large-scale sectional models, installed on the 3-DOF forced motion test rig, are used to measure static aerodynamic force coefficients and aerodynamic (flutters) derivatives. Sectional models can be elastically suspended to check aeroelastic stability and VIV, both in smooth and turbulent flow up to a wind speed of 50 m/s.

Aeroelastic models of full-bridges and construction stages are instead tested in the boundary layer section, to check buffeting response, stability, and VIV, also considering proximity models and different wind directions.
