In high-velocity sports, aerodynamic drag is often the primary source of resistance. Wind tunnel testing provides athletes, teams, and sports equipment manufacturers with a valuable tool to enhance performance by reducing drag. The dimensions of the GVPM aeronautical test section accommodate athletes from various disciplines, along with their competition equipment.
Specialized testing equipment has been developed to measure aerodynamic forces in different sports, using a highly accurate force balance system and a set of cameras to record the tests. The system captures force and moment components in three directions as a function of wind speed, allowing for precise isolation of drag and lateral forces, which are then presented to athletes and technicians for analysis.
In addition, a real-time feedback monitor provides athletes with immediate access to measurement data and test videos, overlaid with a reference position to help them maintain consistent body positioning during testing.
With over 10 years of experience, we have successfully applied our expertise in aerodynamics to various sports, including cycling, running, skiing, skating, luge, and ski jumping, enhancing performance across multiple disciplines.
