Flettner Rotors

Flettner rotor is a promising technology for Wind Assisted Ship Propulsion (WASP) helping to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. However, there is limited knowledge about the aerodynamics of single rotors and multi-rotor arrangements. Experiments with TU Delft focused on how the Reynolds number affects a single rotating cylinder performance and examined the interaction effects and overall loads of two rotors.

  • Year of the study: 2017-2018
  • Model & Scale: Rigid actuated model, 1/2 -1/20
  • Client: Collaboration with TU Delft
