Akt transitio train

Crosswind can reduce running stability of trains. Historically, the attention has been focused on high-speed trains but recent studies have shown that also conventional trains, that run at considerably lower speeds (up to 160 km/h), may have a non-negligible risk of overturning due to lateral wind. Politecnico di Milano wind tunnel has performed tests on the new AKT Transitio train designed by CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles), to evaluate the impact that different noses and roofs geometry have on the aerodynamic performance of the train. Thanks to a modular scaled model the aerodynamic coefficients of 28 different train configurations have been measured.
